Orton-Gillingham/ALTA Certification

ALTA certification is a two year intensive, graduate level training, with a practicum. Therapy Level, CALT, requires 176 hours of instruction, at least 10 demonstrations, 700 clinical teaching hours, and a national exam. Decoding Dyslexia Utah is working hard to bring the science of reading to every school. As we work on educating our teachers and improving options in public education for kids with dyslexia, there is a huge demand for CALTs in Utah. Currently, there are no local training centers for CALTs. Starting in 2023, Utah will have in-person training options. In the mean time, there are several on-line training programs. The best value we’ve found is through the Shelton School, based in Dallas. They are offering 2 trainings this summer.

We currently have 2 cohorts in training, through Shelton. Utah has 14 therapists in training and 6 CALTs.

Three CALTs will become QI's (Qualified Instructors) in 2023, offering in-person trainings in Utah.
